Recently, I finally got around to putting up a calender and keeping track of the days with it, something I started to make myself a little bit more aware of the passage of time. The only thing that it’s really resulted in is making me feel much more organized and on top of things than before and also astounding me with just how quickly a month can pass by. It helps that I’m keeping busy and that I’m getting most of my goals met, but I can hardly believe that May is almost over.

My Calender
Marking the passage of time.
A few other things have been catching me off-guard about time, too. It’s been over a month since I quit my full time job. It’s been over a year since I went vegan, and a little longer than that that I’ve been dating my significant other. We still have those moments of shyness and silliness about us as though we’d only been dating for a few months, but, looking back, it’s been a pretty amazing year. It’s been almost four years since I’ve moved to Illinois, making this current apartment the longest time I’ve lived in one place since I was in my parents’ home growing up. It’s been over four years since my fiance died of lymphoma. It boggles me that some of these things have been so long. Some of it feels like it kicked off only yesterday.
Time truly is a strange beast, moving in odd ways despite our attempts to regulate it into orderly minutes and hours and days. Still, I’m glad to say, when I look back at what those months leave behind as they fly by, I feel a great sense of pride for what I’ve accomplished. It may seem to whiz by in the blink of an eye, but it’s all time well spent.
