As I am writing this, it is obscenely early. Well, not obscenely. It’s only an hour before I usually wake up but, an hour ago, three o’clock in the AM, it was obscenely early. However, I had slipped out of sleep and into a state of restless wakefulness and, in honor of the idea that if you can’t fall asleep after so long, you should just listen to your body and get up, I did so. And you know what? It’s not half bad. Sometimes, perhaps five hours of sleep is all you need. I might be regretting it a little later when the idea of an earlier crash time comes about this evening, but, for right now, I have the quietness of the pre-dawn morning, all dark skies and sing-song crickets, and I’m getting the work done that I was thinking I wouldn’t have time for before I needed to get ready for work.
And that’s the beautiful thing about this unexpected three AM wake up call. A lot of you know I’ve been pumped about finally deciding to finish Serpent in a Cage, and I think I’m so pumped to be working on it that my body actually decided to prep itself to make more time for it. I went to bed feeling a little blue about the fact that I’d only have a few hours to work on it before I had to get ready for work, and now I’ve had four.
It’s brilliant. It’s such an incredible feeling to know that your mind, body, and soul have all agreed to commit to a project and make it work. I’ve gotten more time, I get to watch the sunrise, and I’m not even tired (….yet).
Has anything like this happened to anyone else? I know it’s a new experience for me, and I’m kind of in love with it. It definitely makes me excited for tomorrow, my day off, where I hope to have another day like Friday, which means another ten more pages or so. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a few more pages to write (and maybe a quick cat-nap to take before work!).
