RoW80 Check-In: November 13th!

“She said they would talk, but, only a few moments after Kadue had started to gentle stroke her hair, she had fallen into a deep, undisturbed, and desperately needed sleep. He stayed with her the entire night, helping her back into her shackles when the morning inevitably came.”

I’ve said it before and I’ll probably continue saying it on many Sundays to come, but the weekends are so difficult for me to write! This weekend was particularly difficult, many different things going on in my life to give me reason to skip my writing, but they were all worthy reasons to sort of take a break. Stress from work, needing to help out a friend, and being sick to boot is a pretty good trifecta of not getting much work done. However, today is Sunday, usually a decent recharge day for me lately, and I get to come home from work and catch up with all the television shows I’ve missed from being too busy writing and then tomorrow is glorious Monday when I can actually get some work done and catch up on where I fell back this weekend. Let’s have a look!

Serpent in a Cage: Officially started in on the second notebook; we’re kind of in Part II of III now, where the action shifts back to the first group of characters as they set out toward the second group and have a few adventures in a cave. And after hitting the reader with the heaviness of Auferrix’s situation, we start to get a little heavier with Locke and Gilferen, too. There are a lot of adjustments that will have to be made to the original draft, so it’s working out to be half new material, half old material, but it’s going well! Chapter: Ten. Page count: 121.

750 Words: Still on board with the November challenge, though nothing too spectacular or interesting is coming from it right now. It’s still just extending a lot of short snippets I’ve started to see if they go anywhere, and they haven’t gone far.

Novel in 6 Months: Since my attention goes to NaNoWriMo first, my Novel in 6 Months has been a little neglected, but I’m still far ahead of the word count for this one. I’ve been jotting a lot of ideas and thoughts on this one, though not much actual scene writing is going on right now with it. Page count: 43. Word count: 28,582.

NaNoWriMo: I’m about a day and a half behind right now; I’ve been able to chip out a few words here and there (hey, something is better than nothing, right?), but not enough to be on track for the month so far. I’m hoping to catch back up in the next few days now that Saturday has passed us! I am having a little bit of trouble with the story and wishing I’d picked something else to write or that I’d had more time to outline and plan, but it’s definitely too late now, and, as I always say, even if it isn’t very good, something is better than nothing, and it can always improve later. So we forge on ahead, hoping for things to fall into place nicely all the same. Page count: 29. Word count: 18,664.

Short Stories: Nothing exciting to report here, unless you count editing two paragraphs of “Just Right” exciting. I’d like to have it done by the end of this coming week, but I’ve been saying that every week.

The 100 Books Project: Nearly finished with another book, which I hope to accomplish tonight. I’m in that stage where you’re almost finished, and it seems that no matter how much you read, you can’t seem to get to the end. There’s got to be a name for that phenomenon…. Books read: 50/100.

How is everyone else doing? I know I’ve been positively crap for managing to make it to see everyone, but I know I’m better with that in the beginning of the week, too! I’d love to hear how you’re doing and, of course, all the wonderful, encouraging comments everyone’s been leaving have been fantastic and gratifying. Thanks, everyone!
