“He was wasting time, thought. It wasn’t as if Gilferen could storm off through the solid wall, so Locke wondered why he was trying to justify his actions in the first place. He was the leader, after all; Gilferen was easily his right hand man, but still one of his men all the same.
Deep down, too, somehow, Locke knew that whatever he wanted to do, Gilferen would follow him to the very ends of Aryneth.”
We’re probably about halfway through Chapter Three. I had the day off yesterday and, of course, one always tries to plan to get through all the writing humanly possible, but when you’re looking at a week that includes potentially two twelve hour workdays, you just wind up vegging. I did get a few pages done, and things are coming along with the new rewriting on the scene, so I can’t complain too much.
One concern that has cropped up for me is whether or not the action in the book, or at least the big plot points, are all going to be too similar. I might rewrite Chapter Three to take place either outdoors or in a tavern, as right now, it’s taking place in a subterranean secret hideout, which might be too similar to the fact that, later on, there’s a whole set of events in a cave, and, after that, breaking into the castle through the dungeon. Are these elements all too similar? Will it seem repetitive? Or will the events that happen in them be different enough to set them apart? Perhaps the similarities can be worked into a greater theme. I’m not sure. I’m several pages into them being in the secret hideout, so it’s too late to go back in this draft, but it would certainly be a consideration for future drafts.
Today’s one of my twelve hour workdays, so I unfortunately won’t get much of a chance to check in with my fellow RoWers, so how are you all doing? I hope you all have an excellent rest of the week!
