“‘No,’ said Gilferen levelly. ‘When a woman is clearly insane, I lose interest. Or did you already forget that she nearly took off my head with that staff of hers?’”
I am happy to say that things for my RoW80 work, Serpent in a Cage, has not only stopped merely plodding, but has decided to come along swimmingly recently and I’m making excellent progress. Chapter Two is finally finished, going swiftly into Chapter Three, and it’s been an awful lot of fun because, while I’m still using the first draft as a guide, there’s a lot of things that are being changed. It’s a rather cool exercise to take something you’ve written before and write something else by taking certain parts of the first one, keeping them, and building something better out of them. We’re just about to find out about Tayahyla and Estialog’s mission to find Auferrix, and Gilferen and Locke will decide that they’re going to try to get there first. So the plot is coming along, I’m very pleased with the results thus far, and everything is just gravy.
Part of my brain wants to be all, “OH, sure, you can totally pick up the pace and finish it by the 22nd!” That’s the part of my brain that isn’t very realistic. The part of my brain that is has decided that I would like to get to the Caves of [Name Likely to be Determined Later] by the end of this round. That’s approximately the half-way point in the book, and I could definitely be satisfied with that. And I’m so glad people seem to be enjoying the snippets before each check=in, too! I mostly started it because the first one were lines I liked so much I had to share them, and then I just thought, “Hey, why not make it a tradition?” I spend so much time just talking about my writing here, without ever really showing any of it.
In other notes, thanks to Kait, I was inspired to do a little bit of a Flash Fiction Prompt yesterday! Go and check it out and be inspired and submit something; it could be lots of fun!
Best of luck with all my other RoWers this week! How’s it going for you guys? I look forward to trying to read all your updates!
