“Four pairs of eyes followed his hobbling away, four pairs of eyes that didn’t know what to look at on e the hobbling was over. Then Locke decided simply to glare over Gilferen’s shoulder, and the woman, placing the end of her staff firmly on the ground with a thud, lifted her chin defiantly.
Gilferen cleared his throat. ‘So,’ he offered, ‘come here often?’”
My loose goal for Serpent in a Cage was to be on Chapter Three by this check in; I didn’t quite make it, but I did manage to sit and write for three whole pages last night before bed. I’ve been extremely lazy about motivating myself to get at least that page before bed finished, so I was pleased to have so many, even if it wasn’t finishing out the chapter as I had originally would have liked. I have the skeleton of this particular chapter, but so much of it needs to be changed that it’s still a lot of work. By the end of it, though, our heroes should have learned about Auferrix in her dungeon and will cook up a half-brained idea to go and kidnap her and hold her hostage for moolah. It just feels like it’s taking forever to get there. I hope that’s more because I haven’t dedicated as much time as I should to it and not because the book is dragging and boring.
So, as usual, not much to report on. My recent preoccupation with trying to think of a novel I could knock out in about a month or so has stolen some of the fire under my feet regarding SiaC, but it’s definitely still there. How is everyone else doing? It’s hard to believe tomorrow begins September already, isn’t it?
Either way, my goal is to at least finish Chapter Two today, so I better get working.
