There are just four days until the last day of this session of A Round of Words in 80 Days. As you’d know if you’ve been keeping up with this blog, I jumped in on this session super late, so I gave myself a very easy goal: by June 23, finish a rough draft of a short story I was discussing with some of the girls I work with for a potential short film project. Which means I have basically four days to write the damn thing because I haven’t had much time to write much of it.
In my defense, it’s the weekend, when I work the most, and I worked a thirteen hour day yesterday (thus the reason for no post yesterday). That hardly leaves room for writing. Still, I managed to get myself mostly ahead on the novel I’m working on this month, to leave more time today and through the next few days to finish the short story. Plus, I had a bit of a writer’s block with it, but I’ve pull forward and got some momentum going to get it chugging along toward the ending.
If anything, I figured as long as I just finish it, even if it isn’t very good, that’s what counts. Following the quote I posted the other day, I may not be a good writer, but I’m an excellent rewriter, and there will always be time to brush it up and make it better. I’ll get there. I’m not doing as well at this point as I was hoping I would have been, but there’s still time.
Now off to work on that for a little bit before I call up certain men in my life to wish them a happy Father’s Day and thank them for all they’ve done for me. And a Happy Father’s Day to any fathers reading. My father is a remarkable man who has molded me into the bright, inquisitive, and (most of all) intensely creative person I am today. If it wasn’t for his love and support and frequent sharing of the things he loved, I don’t know who I would have become, but it wouldn’t have been me, and, really, I kind of like me. So, thanks, Dad. You’re the best.
