So, it’s Friday, I have the day off, my paychecks and bills aligned in such a way that I actually have a little spending cash to go shopping and buy some nice things for the apartment, I got my first official Amazon review for Soulless (thanks, Lauralynn!), so I want to do something a little different and just fun and light and not about writing or promoting or anything like that. Let’s talk books.

So, I’d also like to know! What was the last book you read, and, as you’re the main character now, what are you doing?

I’m currently in the middle of reading Seeds of Time by Kay Kenyon, and, as such, I’ve just landed on a new, Earth-like jungle planet and roped into patrolling with that guy I accidentally slept with when I was a little bit weak, and he thinks it means way much more than it does, and he thought he could make it happen again, but he didn’t take into account my gun, that son of a bitch. I might just have to splatter his brains all over his shirt.

What about you? I took my answer straight from the book, since I’m in the middle of it, but you could easily take it from the ending of the last book you finished reading and, in that case, give us the ever-after. If I did that, I’d be turning to Lois McMaster Bujold’s The Sharing Knife Book 3: Passage, where I’m helping my friend get ready for her impending wedding to my brother! (And that’s a little bit of a cheat, because I’ve started book four and that’s how it starts).

    Dying of cancer, as the last book I read was The Fault In Our Stars. EEK! No thanks, lol.

    If I count books I’m currently reading, then I’m either exploring the hell house in House of Leaves, or I’m a tattooed junkie reading about the discovery of the hell house and slowly going insane. Haha, I think I need to read books with happier protagonists!

      Hmmm. Cancer or that hell house? I honestly don’t know what I’d choose between those two. My literary self is all, “THE HOUSE COULD BE A METAPHOR FOR THE CANCER.”

      House of Leaves is a great book, by the way. I love how there’s something in there to creep out just about anyone. Everyone I’ve talked to has cited a different thing that creeped them out the most. I would tell you mine, but I don’t know how far you’ve already descended into the madness. 🙂

        I think I’d end either book with “oh thank goodness, it was all a DREAM” if I had to be the hero 😛

        I’m about 100 pages into House of Leaves. I’m going slow because it’s a dense read and it does creep me out every few chapters. I think Johnny Truant’s constant unsettled nausea is what’s creeping me out the most. Like the whole “there’s evil in the corner of your vision” thing.

        The house’s measurements not adding up is inherantly creepy to me too though. I like when the data adds up and makes sense. Unexplainable stuff is creepy!

          THAT. The measurements not adding up was the big thing for me, especially since, at the time, I lived in an old apartment where the doors never seemed to fit in the door frames just right AND a big old crack appeared over one of them when I was reading about that. Oh, man. That’s what messes me up the most, those little unexplanable changes. When things get really crazy, it’s more overblown, and I find that easier to deal with, but when it’s just little niggling details here and there…Nope. Nopenopenope.

    Hmm, I’m reading four books right now, and they are all different genres. Okay, I’m Ellen Rosings, I own a tearoom, and I’m trying to figure out if someone murdered the older lady who died in my tearoom or if it was natural causes. Also, I’m “almost” dating a hot cop. LOL (A Sprig of Blossomed Thorn, Book 2 in the Wisteria Tearoom Mysteries by Patrice Greenwood)

      Well, what’s the point of owning a tearoom if you’re not also almost dating a hot cop? The two go together like butter and scones.

    I’m in the middle of two series right now. So I’m either a Pretty in Scott Westerfield’s series, and totally into being bubbly! or I’m Clary from Immortal Instruments and finally feeling like Jace and I are back on solid ground (but we’re not).

      Though I’ve heard of both series, I haven’t read either of them! I should look into changing that. I think, though, I’d rather be on the bubbly side than the not-so-solid ground side!

    Oh what a clever idea!

    I’d be defeating a giant Palestine with a stone and trying to figure out how to be the King’s bodyguard without upsetting him 😀

      Ooh, is that a retelling of the David and Goliath story? That’s a cool idea! And, if that’s the case, don’t worry. I have a strange feeling everything is going to work out okay for you. 🙂

        I’m pretty sure it is, she sent it to me for review and I didn’t know much about it. And then I started recognising things and it’s just really cleverly written 😀
