Since it’s the last few days of A Round of Words in 80 Days, most of my writing focus is going to be staunchly on getting to the big POV switch in Serpent in a Cage, but, of course, since I’m trying to focus on something, my mind is wandering a little toward other things this morning. I have a pathetic attention span; this is not news to anyone who knows me, and, while I don’t imagine it’ll distract me enough that work on SiaC won’t be done, I do feel the need to babble a little. So here you have it.
For 750 Words, I’ve abandoned Redneck Hipster Zombies for a while to work a little on the Drafes Academy (aka “kind of like Harry Potter but in space”); I’ve been stabbing at it for about three days now and I’m still not happy with it. I swear, this series has been one of the most difficult series for me to start ever. I just cannot get a grasp on how the whole thing needs to get started. So I turn to you, dear readers, on your thoughts. Have you ever had difficulty starting a book? Do you have any methods to help circumvent this problem? Do you believe in try, try, try again, or just shelving it for a while until it feels more inspired and less forced&?
I was also thinking a lot, again, on getting something finished for epublishing experimentation. Considering how terrible I am at finishing things, my mind then went to wondering if perhaps a cheap, cheap, super cheap novella might be the way to go. I played around with a serial, but I feel with my current crippled muses, a novella would be an easier task to tackle. I tried to think of something new to write, and I know I’ve been wanting to work on a dark or fractured fairy tale story. But then the question becomes which fairy tale, and there I’ll have to spend some more time thinking. All I came up with this morning was a title, and even that I’m not bought quite yet. What do you think of the title Funeral Briar? Too cheese? Too obscure?
That’s all for today. Things are a little random because all I can really think about are possible new projects and working my butt off on the current one. Please let me know your thoughts and good luck to my fellow ROWers until Thursday!
