Last year, I began a (mostly) successful project of writing at least one page a day of an entirely new novel for a month. In the spirit of National Novel Writing Month, it was a project that got me writing for the sake of producing something new every day, even if, at the end of the month, what was written is discarded or at least set aside for review or revision later.
So twelve potential novels came into existence. Considering the project a success, I plan to do the same this year and, when the year is over, choose one to extend out into a full length first draft of a book.
I really had no idea what I wanted to do for this month’s novel, and I’m dragging a little behind on my page count, though I’m determined to catch up. The current project has no title, or really even any plot, but has started out in the vein of a mobster/spy mystery type. A strange, clandestine meeting in a tea shop between a mysterious woman and a thug with no tongue. It’s one of those things where I’m letting the book write itself, and it should be interesting to see where it will lead me.
